In Your Family
via homeklondlike.com

With a family of 4 we could never have enough living room storage. I wanted a casual, functional space. But that didn't mean I wanted to compromise on style. Remember casual does not mean messy. This room presents many challenges and here are some of them:

The Challenges

It is used by many people, family and guest.

It is used to store games, magazines, books, CDs and DVDs, collections, computer and even extra blankets and pillows.

It has many functions. Some of them may include relaxing, entertaining guests, playing games or watching movies.

It is sometimes one of the first rooms in the house seen by guests when entering and gives an impression of what the rest of the house is like.

Since everyone ends up here at one time or another throughout the day it is important to take everyone's needs into consideration.

So, the question is how do you organize and store all of these things to please everyone? The answer is great living room storage ideas. The key is to keep things easily accessible and to keep as much out of site as possible so the space does not appear cluttered.

Here you will find some living room storage ideas and solutions to conquer your living room clutter.

Magazines
    - For those who can't read enough of these you need to find organizing and storage ideas for your magazines and articles. The coffee table and end tables makes for great storage. If your coffee table has space under it don't waste that space! Use it to place decorative baskets for blankets, games, books, or current magazines

If you would like to keep current magazines, sewing basket etc. accessible but don't like the look of it, place it under an end table and cover it with a decorative material.

More Living Room Storage Ideas

Use storage cubbies or modular units to create a short "wall" or bookcase. Fill it with baskets, boxes, or bins for storage.

Choose furniture with multiple uses. For example, a chest or ottoman can double as a coffee table but still be available for additional storage.

Build a window seat or add shelves under a regular or bay window.

Place a table or chest behind your sofa. If you use a table you can also use the space under it to store extra seating cubes to use when extra guests visit.

If you would like to keep current magazines, sewing basket etc. accessible but don't like the look of it, place it under an end table and cover it with a decorative material.

Add shelves or shadow boxes to an empty wall. These can be used to display pictures, postcard collections, or special collection that would have otherwise taken up precious table space. You could also use them for storing books or CDs.

Use tiered decorative boxes or vintage suitcases as an end table.

These are a few ideas to get you started. You can use anything for storage as long as it works for you and your family. Remember the key is to make items easy to access and easy to put away. That is the formula for a clutter free living room that everyone can enjoy.
